Holidays To Turkey – Local Thirst Quenchers
Turkey is an interesting nation on the Mediterranean with a large percentage of the territory in the Anatolian region of West Asia. Blessed with a mild climate, wonderful sights, magnificent architecture, energetic nightlife, and friendly citizens, Turkey is one of leading destinations of visitors.
But the sites, climate, night entertainment, and people are just some of the things that make Turkey an interesting region to head to. When enjoying holidays to Turkey, you should try out unique drinks. In fact, tasting their beverages constitutes a part of experiencing Turkey’s culinary culture.
1. Ayran
This is a widely known beverage made of water and yogurt and served without sugar. At times, a little salt is added. The drink is very pleasant and refreshing especially if taken during hot weather.
2. Kahve
Kahve, or Turkish coffee, is served in small cups. The drink is tasty but extremely strong. Typically, kahve is served black. Nevertheless, if it is too strong for you, you can order variations with some milk or sugar in it.
3. Cay
Cay is traditional Turkish tea, the hot beverage of choice of many Turks; indeed, Turks are heavy tea drinkers. Try out their special elma cay (apple tea) or ada cay (sage tea). Keep in mind that if your tea is prepared by locals, your tea may be stronger than you are used to. Weaken it a bit with hot water or milk.
4. Boza
Another tasty beverage to be drunk during hot weather, boza is a cold, thick stuff that originally came from Central Asia. The beverage is made from fermented bulgur wheat in which sugar and water are added. You can get commercially made boza, placed in plastic bottles, in supermarkets. But they are sweeter and less dense than the locally made sour and thick boza.
5. Sahlep
Excellent for cold, winter evenings, sahlep is a traditional hot beverage in which milk, sugar, and orchid root are blended. Usually, the beverage is garnished with cinnamon. It goes well with sweet pastries.
6. Red poppy syrup
This classic beverage is mixed with water, sugar, and red poppy petals. It is very refreshing and is favored by children.
