Holidaying In A Cottage In Dorset
Dorset is really a delightful county to explore and definitely worth a stay of as long as you can manage. It’s beautiful and rural and features much to see and do.
A good way to enjoy the county is to rent a holiday cottage to use as your base. They will be self-catering, but with full kitchen area conveniences you can cook whatever you desire. It’s also cheaper than eating at restaurants every night, although there are many excellent restaurants that are worth trying.
You will find a good number of cottages on the market to book.
A beautiful cottage is perfect. If you are holidaying when the temperature is good, use of a garden will be ideal for relaxing in the garden and enjoying some sunshine or even a BBQ. Dorset is particularly well known for thatched cottages, and hiring one of these for a week will enable you to stay somewhere traditional and beautiful.
Holiday cottages are good for groups of good friends to rent out or families. You have more seclusion than a hotel and can easily come and go as you please.
Renting Dorset holiday cottages is easy. You can get recommendations from the Dorset Tourist Information offices or you can search online for Dorset cottages. Rates range upwards of about £300 for a week, depending on the property. For those able to splash out, there are some amazing luxury cottages in the region.
From your base, you can experience all that Dorset has to offer. The county is known for its literary associations with Thomas Hardy, the Jurassic Coastline that goes on for miles and is outstanding for fossils, not to mention the towns and villages that all have their own beauty.
Popular locations to stay in are the ones close to the coast in places such as Studland, Lyme Regis and Weymouth. In 2012, Weymouth and Portland will be particularly hectic because they’re home to the Olympic Games sailing events. If you’d like to book a property from 27th July to 12th August, do not delay! Also, the Paralympic Games will be held between 29th August and 9th September.
Inland, properties near the ruins of Corfe Castle are also highly popular. Choosing a location further away from the obvious tourist locations is the way to go if cost is a concern.
Don’t forget to compare locations and prices to find the best holiday cottage for you, and then you can take advantage of what Dorset has to offer.
