Choosing To Renew Pasport Online
Citizens of the United States are very lucky compared to some of our neighbors. When they apply for a book to travel, they know that it is good for traveling abroad for the next ten years. Most other countries do not give the same length of time. In addition to this, you also have the convenience to renew US passport online.
Renew Online
With the option of doing it on the computer, you know you can do it whenever you want. All you need to do is find a website and then find out what is going to be required. You can save yourself the trouble of finding a facility and giving up time in your day.
Ten Year Period
You will be able to handle it in your own time, from home. This can be done as long as it is undamaged and less than fifteen years old. And it will still be good for ten years. You can also do this when it is convenient for you, not just when the office is opened.
Simple Process
When you renew this way, the process is much simpler than applying for the first time. The application form that needs to be filled out is the DS-82. This is required to be filled out online. When you are filling out the form, be sure that it has a barcode. If it does not, you could be filling out an incorrect form, this will delay receiving your new book. After you have filled the application in, you need to print it, then sign and date it.
New Photos
For the renewal process, you also need two photos taken. They must be recent, and they must be identical. Do not use a picture vending machine. Use a photographer who is familiar with this type of photo. That person will know the required sizes and backgrounds.
Turn In Old Passport
You must also be able to turn into the agency your expired passport. This must have been issued within the last fifteen years and at that time, you were sixteen years of age or older. If you had a name change since it was issued, proof of the name change will be required. The book or card must also be undamaged.
Other Documents
In some instances, you will be required to hand in a travel itinerary or a copy of your plane ticket with your papers. If you are traveling for business, they could ask you to provide a letter from your employer. This must be on company letterhead, listing the country to be visited.
Fees
Along with your photos, application and book, you will need to enclose the requested fee. These are not the same everywhere so be sure you look before you choose an agency to assist you. When you send in the money, it will need to be in the form of a money order or certified check.
If you need your book returned faster than the usual time frame, you can, for an additional fee, have the passport online expedited. In this way, when you renew US passport online, you can get it back quicker as well as more conveniently. You will also get your old book back when the new one is mailed to you.
