An Insight into the Mountains of Island Rhodes

Ataviros Mountain:
Ataviros Mountain is known to be the highest mountain of Rhodes. The large mountain overlooks several small mountain villages in the area. The Mountain is situated at the junction of the Aghios Isidoros village and the Embonas village. This lush green mountain, at times completely bathed in sunshine or hidden in clouds has now become a timeless symbol of Rhodes. Furthermore, on the top of the mountain one can find the ruins of an old temple that was dedicated to god Zeus.
Mountain Akramitis:
The Mountain Akramitis has the second highest altitude in Rhodes. It has an altitude of 850 m and is covered by pine trees. Trekking through this Mountain can only be done on foot.
If you make it to the top of the mountain, you get to see spectacular views of the island. You can have beautiful snap shots of the place.
Prophitis Ilias Mountain:
Prophitis Ilias Mountain is a forested mountain with an altitude of about 800 meter. This Mountain is situated approximately in the core of the west coast, close to the Apollona town .
The mountain seems to be covered with trees of Cypress and Calabrian pines. Furthermore, here you can find a variety of flora, floor flowers like endemic, cyclamens, anemones, rare white peony and different kind of orchids.
Once can find snakes, lizards and a variety of butterflies on this mountain too. The long legged buzzards, coocoos, honey buzzards and woodlarks are some of the birds found on Prophitis Ilias Mountain.
Mountain Tsambika:
Mountain Tsambika is situated on the eastern side of the Rhodes Island and has an altitude of about 350 m. The religious place of monks known as Panaghia also known as the Virgin is situated on the mountain’s top.
Mountaineers love this place too as the more you go up the more stunning the views get of the surrounding areas. You will find a lot of peace and serenity at the top of the mountain.
Philerimo Mountain:
Another famous mountain in the Rhodes Island is that of Philerimo. The Mountain is located at an elevation of 280 m and is blessed with lots of greenery.
